Mousonius, circa 6th century. Seal (Lead, 22 mm, 11.13 g, 6 h). Block monogram MOVCⲰNIOV. Rev. mЧSЧNII ("Musunii") in two lines, star above and below. Unpublished in the standard references. Some breaks along the channel, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

A person named Mousonios is named as city prefect of Constantinopolis in the year 556 (PLRE vol. 3b, p. 906) under Justinian I. It is reported that he suppressed public disorder in response to a bread shortage. Considering the rarity of the name, it is quite likely that this seal is his seal
